Spider Plant , chlorophytum comosum

The spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is considered one of the most adaptable of houseplants and the easiest to grow. This plant can grow in a wide range of conditions and suffers from few problems, other than brown tips. The spider plant is so named because of its spider-like plants, or spiderettes, which dangle down from the mother plant like spiders on a web. Available in green or variegated varieties, these spiderettes often start out as small white flowers.

Spider plants ((chlorophytum comosum) produce a rosette of long, thin, arched foliage that is solid green or variegated with white. Spider plants form arching clumps of grass-like leaves and get their common names from the baby plantlets that form on their dangling stems. They are one of the most adaptable and easy to grow houseplants, so they're perfect for people who don't necessarily have a green thumb!

Light:  Keep plants in bright to moderate indirect sunlight. Spider plants do not appreciate direct, hot sunlight, which can burn their leaves, causing brown tips and spots.

Water: Spider plants like even moisture; they don’t like to be too dry or too wet. In the spring and summer months, keep the soil moist to encourage growth. Do not let soil dry out too much.

Soil: Well drained Soil . Use sand with your potting mixture to make soil well drained .

Temperature: They do best in temperature range (18-27 C)

Fertilizer: Liquid fertilizer during the growing season every  month . Don't fertilize this plant in winters .

Pest Attacks: Spider plant are susceptible to attacks from pests and mealybugs . To protect plants from pests use soap and water solution or you can also use neem oil solution .

Common Problems

Burned Tips : Spider plants are prone to tip burn, which can be caused by dry soil, low humidity, or a buildup of salt and chemicals that are found in some public tap water. Keep the soil slightly moist.

Dead Leaves: Trim dead leaf tips or leaves with scissors. If you notice brown or dead leaves or leaf tips, you should remove them. Snip the tip or leaf off using scissors so that the plant's energy can be directed toward growing healthy leaves.
